5 Tips for Self-Care Following Root Canal Treatment
If you recently had a root canal, having questions is natural, especially if you aren’t quite feeling 100% yet. We are here to answer any questions you may have, including how to care for your root canal tooth after your procedure.
If you ever have questions, you are always welcome to call us directly.
#1 Don’t Stress about Some Sensitivity
After your procedure, your body will begin to heal, but you may experience some sensitivity for a few days after treatment. Once the infection is completely eliminated, your body’s immune system will work hard to heal and you should feel like yourself again within a week.
#2 Avoid Chewing on the Area Until You Have Your Permanent Crown
Oftentimes, we will place a temporary filling in your root canal tooth until we can place a dental crown for greater protection. Avoid chewing on the area until you have your crown in place both to prevent discomfort and to prevent fracturing the tooth. Root canal teeth are easier to break.
#3 Brush and Floss Normally
Clean your teeth normally. Developing gum disease is the last thing you need after a root canal procedure.
#4 Rinse with Warm Water to Soothe the Area
Avoid extremely hot and cold liquids until your tooth feels better. Rinsing with lukewarm water can feel quite soothing.
#5 Schedule Your Follow-Up Exam
We will need to check the healing n your tooth to make sure all is well. Be sure to keep that appointment because it is an integral part of your care.
We will also place your permanent crown to reinforce the tooth.
