Most patients would like to avoid root canal therapy, whenever possible. This treatment, however, allows us to save teeth that would otherwise require an extraction, making it one of the most important services we can offer to our patients.

When we perform root canal therapy in our Houston, TX dental office, our dentists do so comfortably and effectively, leaving you with nothing to fear when it comes to having a root canal.

When Root Canals May Be Necessary

  1. You Have an Infection Inside Your Tooth: Developing an infection inside your tooth can create inflammation and pain. Your tooth may also hurt when you bite down. A root canal removes all of the infection, bacteria, and diseased tissue from inside your tooth so that you can experience relief from your symptoms. We will seal your tooth to prevent any reinfection.
  2. Deep Decay Has Reached the Nerve of Your Tooth: Often, decay is a silent and symptom-free condition until it is well advanced and affects the nerve of your tooth. Once decay reaches your nerve, your body will likely alert you with pain, throbbing, and swelling. One of our dentists will need to remove the decay and your nerve to ensure that the infection can heal. We always completely numb your tooth before any procedure, so you don’t feel pain from treatment.
  3. An Accident or Repetitive Trauma: An accident involving your face, jaw, or tooth can trigger inflammation and pain. Sometimes, your tooth may even appear discolored from the blow, like a bruise. Repetitive action like grinding your teeth at night or having a bite that does not come together properly can also result in the need for root canal treatment and probably an adjustment to your bite, as well.
